Max Kettenacker

Director, Cambridge

Passionate about developing a strong connection with the city he is working in, Max set up our studio in Cambridge where he feels honoured to work with a talented and hard-working team in a city of incredible beauty and charm.

Max specialises in higher education and student housing, having delivered Ash Court, a new-build student accommodation wing at Girton College, which has received numerous awards, and, more recently, graduate accommodation buildings for King’s College – the first major Passivhaus development in Cambridge

Max leads the University of Cambridge’s redevelopment of Old Press/Mill Lane in the heart of Cambridge on the River Cam and has also prepared masterplans for numerous Colleges in the city, including for St John and Gonville and Caius. Max also maintains a keen interest in sustainable building design and led Allies and Morrison’s pro-bono work for a charity-run training centre in Malawi.

As an aspiring architect, Max worked in Munich and still reminisces about the time he spent there. He trained at the universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge and is a member of the practice’s Sustainability Group, Student Housing Group and is involved with our charitable and pro-bono work.
