Kasupe Training Centre

View all projects

A microfinance charity, MicroLoan operates centres across Malawi, making small business loans to women. Our scheme, designed pro bono for the charity, offers the Foundation its first purpose-built training centre to future assist recipients of loans by providing a space for business support and vocational training. The new centre sits adjacent to MicroLoan's existing headquarters, creating a welcoming public entrance to the charity's much-visited home base. It is simple in form, housing four 55sqm classrooms from an open colonnade along the front of the building.

The colonnade is inspired by the porches, or 'khondes', typically found in local architecture. It offers shade from sun and acts as a gathering space

Wherever possible, we specified local materials, including tiles and bricks sourced from nearby Lake Malawi
