In a conservation area characterised by small Victorian terraces in the south-east of the city, a council-owned municipal depot alongside the railway occupied the site of what was once a foundry, and then a coal depot. This inaugural project for a new council JV with a focus on developing sites for council-owned homes draws on this mix to provide a diversity of spaces, scales and building typologies: townhouses, mews house, apartments and a community centre as well as 25% open green space, all set within a network of lanes and mews’ that respect the urban grain. 50% of the new homes are for council rent.
