Billy Choi

Director, Head of Science and Innovation

Billy is a designer, communicator, strategic thinker and problem solver. Grounded in all-round experience, his work spans project leadership and international opportunities.

As Head of Science and Innovation, Billy oversees our broad portfolio ranging from urban centres to science parks, from masterplans to advanced laboratories. He is driven by a genuine curiosity for science and entrepreneurship, and by a commitment to progressive, low-carbon, characterful architecture and placemaking that supports innovation.

For over a decade, he has guided major projects at the crossroads of academia, research, and industry. For Imperial College London, he has led the RIBA Award-winning Sir Michael Uren Hub — a 13-storey laboratory for cutting-edge research in disciplines including biomedical, medtech and nanomaterials. He is currently involved in a pioneering academic building that brings together the teaching of natural sciences, engineering, and entrepreneurship. He is also shaping the transformation of Imperial’s South Kensington campus.

Beyond academia, Billy has led commercial innovation districts such as White City Place, a reimagined campus now home to L’Oréal, Autolus, and Novartis. He is also involved in projects in London’s Knowledge Quarter and in Cambridge.

His commitment to science and innovation extends beyond the practice. He has championed the UK chapter of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories (I2SL) and contributes as an Expert Member to the Innovation Districts panel for New London Architecture (NLA).

Billy trained at the University of Hong Kong, the Architectural Association and the Bartlett, and has taught with Tony Fretton at London Metropolitan University.
