On a side street behind our Southwark studios stand two distinctive yet complementary buildings of student accommodation. Designed for rapid construction using prefabricated components, the seven-storey building facing Great Suffolk Street relates in scale and materiality to the surrounding city. Set behind this, in a courtyard accessed via large gates from the street, is a thirteen-storey tower, clad in storey height aluminium and glazed panels which offset at each floor producing a distinctive chequerboard rhythm to the facades.
