To mark the practice’s 30 years of working in Cambridge, we transformed our London OnSpace into a three-dimensional map of the city, plotting thirty of our projects over the course of that time. The temporary installation was then moved to our Cambridge studio where it is on proud display on a semi-permanent basis.
Allies and Morrison’s footprint in Cambridge is extensive and far-reaching. The exhibition explored a portfolio that spans a wide spectrum of typologies, particularly for the university and its colleges, and also workplace, housing and infrastructure projects, demonstrating a deep commitment to the historic city’s contemporary evolution.
The work has been characterised by thoughtfulness for Cambridge’s unique heritage setting and, in more recent years, a centre for excellence for sustainable design, seeing the practice deliver Cambridge’s first Passivhaus developments.
From award-winning student accommodation and educational buildings like the Faculty of English to large-scale masterplans for the Cambridge Science Park and Cambridge Biomedical Campus, our Cambridge work unfolds at multiple scales. Projects featured ranged from the recently delivered Brooklands, a high-performance office environment, to projects for Darwin, St John’s, Fitzwilliam, Gonville & Caius and Girton Colleges, to mixed-use neighbourhood developments like Ironworks and Darwin Green.
