Canteen Restaurant, Royal Festival Hall

View all projects

Integrated within the underused south side of the Royal Festival Hall, this restaurant for Canteen spills out onto Southbank Centre Square with a generous outdoor dining space beneath large umbrellas. Inside, the dining room is defined by two full-length counters - a servery and a bar - with seating clustered between them in a regular arrangement of signature Canteen booths. The selection of materials and fixtures makes reference to the original 1950s building, as does the sculptural ceiling which also adds lightness and volume to the deep plan.
