Allies and Morrison were appointed to gain Reserved Matters approval for 350 homes as part of the Trumpington Meadows residential development in Cambridge. Our work culminated in the production of a masterplan that contains all the ingredients of a sustainable village and is intended to set the benchmark for further phases of development on the site.

In keeping with Trumpington village the houses have a simplicity in their design and humbleness in their scale. A limited palette of local materials has been selected to make reference to the local vernacular, including pale cream gault bricks and natural slate roof tiles.

Across the site there is a clear distinction between public and private, defensible and open space. A simple language of walls, fences and hedges knit the buildings and spaces together. The design creates a neighbourhood that is easy to navigate and connects seamlessly into the local network of pedestrian, cycle and road networks. As a result of the success of the first phase of the development we have subsequently master planned a further 120 houses and are currently completing Reserved Matters for another 330 homes.
