DohaLand’s Knowledge Enrichment Centre is an information hub that shares a vision for architecture and the built environment in Qatar. It houses display spaces that tell the story of the nearby Msheireb development and help to convey a heritage-rooted Qatari story to shape the country’s future sustainable development.
The floating building of 1,200 sqm is prominently located on Doha’s Corniche. Its softly modelled form is simple and robust, a contemporary reinterpretation of traditional Qatari architecture. Inside, an exhibition on the Msheireb project organises the sequence of spaces. The built forms represent many of the principles outlined in the Seven Steps, Allies and Morrison’s architectural guidelines for Msheireb Downtown Doha. These include entrance space, the baraha, which explores informal geometries and indirect daylighting and a majlis. Here, grand proportions and simple surfaces of natural materials are offset against special areas of fine detail, including temporary patterns taken from Qatari motifs.
