Planning milestone for Stratford Waterfront at East Bank
Earlier this week, the Planning Committee at London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) voted in support of the officers’ recommendation to approve the planning application for East Bank. This represents an important project milestone enabling the delivery of following phases of the single largest cultural and educational project in contemporary London. The next step will be a stage 2 consultation with the Greater London Authority (GLA) before formal approval.
The vision for the project is to embed a cultural and educational legacy on the site of the 2012 and Paralympic Games. The scheme has been designed by a collaborative team of Allies and Morrison, O’Donnell + Tuomey and Camps Felip Arquitectura. It will contain a new home for Sadler’s Wells the V&A East, a new venue for BBC Music and a unified campus for the London College of Fashion. The development also will provide 600 new homes including 35% affordable housing.
The design was unveiled by Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London in June 2018, following an earlier international search for a design team.
