This September, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham unanimously approved plans for Imperial College’s White City Campus South. Masterplanned by Allies and Morrison, the proposed development covers a 14-acre site located within burgeoning White City and represents a significant milestone in Imperial’s presence there.

The masterplan aims to foster incidental interactions between the university’s academic community, businesses, entrepreneurs and academic partners to address current and future global challenges to benefit society. Alongside 180,000 sqm of new accommodation, a series of flexible outdoor spaces and new pedestrian routes will provide attractive focal points for events, science and technology exhibitions, or performances. Together with the provision of new homes alongside a new hotel and spaces for retail and leisure, Imperial College White City will be a place where researchers, industry partners, residents, neighbours, and visitors will intermingle, creating a dynamic and inclusive new urban quarter.

The masterplan is one of several projects the practice is currently working on with Imperial College. Others include the Michael Uren Biomedical Hub, at the White City Campus North, which opens later this year; the refurbishment of The Invention Rooms, the new School of Public Health and a masterplan for Imperial’s South Kensington campus.
