The results of our collaboration with Paris-based TVK are currently on view at an exhibition at the Pavilion de l’Arsenal, Paris’ municipal gallery for architecture and design. Earlier in the year, the TVK-Allies and Morrison team was shortlisted to participate in an international competition.

A consultation was launched in March 2018 by the City of Paris and the co-owner of Maine-Montparnasse, EITMM. The brief was to propose a design transformation of the development and its signature modernist tower, to be more sympathetic to  Paris’ urban fabric and resilient to future climate challenges.

Our proposal with TVK opted to transform open spaces while keeping demolition to a minimum. A sequence of public spaces would position Montparnasse in a closer relationship to the surrounding urban fabric by creating new connections and reducing the amount of space devoted to vehicular traffic.

The four shortlisted teams are presented at the exhibition, including the winning scheme by a team led by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners. The TVK-Allies and Morrison proposal was the runner-up.

Maine-Montparnasse is on view until the 1st of September at the Pavilion de l’Arsenal, 21 Boulevard Morland, 75004 Paris. Entry is free, Tue-Sun, 11am-7pm.
