Homes at North Kensington Gate get the green light from OPDC
Forty-seven new homes designed by Allies and Morrison at North Kensington Gate have received planning permission from the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation. Developed by Aurora Developments, the new residential building will see the regeneration of a currently light-industrial site on Scrubs Lane within the Old Oak Common Masterplan Area and the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
The new development sits on the eastern edge of the Opportunity Area at the junction of Scrubs Lane with Hythe Road. The building will therefore mark the eastern gateway entrance into the centre of the revitalised Old Oak masterplan.
The overall architectural design is shaped by both the local context and the historic precedent of typical London Gregorian mansion blocks. The building has a stepped form with a ‘shoulder’ of four storeys that responds to the scale of the Cumberland Park Conservation Area, increasing to eleven storeys directly opposite this important nodal junction. There will be a strong red brick masonry frame, a form which responds to the neighbouring Victorian houses and workshops. Completion is expected by 2019.
