Friday, 20th September marked the beginning of a week of global action to bring attention to the magnitude of the climate crisis. As a practice, we joined the climate strike action by offering several ways to participate.

On the day of the Global Climate Strike many members of the practice took advantage of flexible working arrangements in place for the day to participate in strike action in London and Cambridge. The following week, we held a Practice Conversation to examine how we can, collectively, respond to the climate emergency. This followed a ‘design sprint’ workshop format that has been developed with Buro Happold to facilitate rapid prototyping of ideas. Nearly seventy members of the practice participated, and the ideas generated will inform a range of actions through our practice sustainability strategy.

These initiatives build on our participation in industry-wide efforts throughout a 2019 signalling major changes in global climate action. We are among 120 leading UK businesses as co-signatories of a UKGBC call for government to adopt the Committee on Climate Change’s recommendation for Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. And, we have signed the #architectsdeclare commitment of UK architectural practices, setting out the collective action and commitment needed from our profession to address the dual emergencies of climate change and biodiversity extinction.
