In Worthing, new life for a splendid Edwardian Museum

Proposals for the renovation and expansion of the Worthing Museum and Art Gallery were unveiled last week by Worthing Borough Council. Conceived by Allies and Morrison, the plans will enlarge the Gallery's exhibition spaces through a careful reconfiguration of its Grade II listed Edwardian Home.

Permission granted at Filton Airfield

South Gloucestershire Council has granted outline planning permission to the redevelopment of Filton Airfield. The masterplan, prepared by a team led by Allies and Morrison, will guide the delivery of more than 2,600 new homes and a whole new town centre with schools, 26 ha of employment space,

Oxford Westgate opens its doors

The much anticipated renovation and expansion of Oxford's Westgate Centre opened its doors to the public. A retail-led, mixed-use development in Oxford's historic city centre, the project has involved an extensive overhaul and replacement of a 1970s era shopping centre. Now rebranded Oxford Westgate, Allies and Morrison worked collaboratively with masterplanners BDP, to bring new life to the 5.6 ha site.

Bob Allies has participated in an exchange between London and Beijing as part of Beijing Design Week. Organised by Design Collective London, Bob joined representatives of several different practices and studios from London to take part in the City for Tomorrow Conference.

The Westworks: extending the life of a building

The Westworks - the latest building at White City Place to be re-imagined by Allies and Morrison opens its doors this month. Originally designed by Scott Brownrigg Turner in the late 1980s as the BBC's administrative headquarters, and now acquired by developers Stanhope and Mitsui Fudosan, The Westworks has been given a new life delivering more than 300,000 square feet of new flexible accommodation.

Learning from São Paulo and Copenhagen

At the beginning of the year, Allies and Morrison's Alfredo Caraballo and Daniel Elsea joined the Van Alen Institute International Council - reflecting an interest of the practice in the urban work of the institute and its agenda to promote dialogue through architecture and design.
