Workshop Leader


We are looking to recruit a full time experienced senior model maker to lead our highly skilled in-house workshop.  Working within a large and exceptionally equipped modern workshop you will draw on your experience of both the latest and traditional modelmaking techniques and processes to deliver creatively outstanding models.

You will be responsible for managing the workshop. From establishing initial model requirements to designing models with and for our Architects, making models, providing quotes, programming job bookings and project managing large models and exhibition materials to overseeing workshop health and safety compliance, carrying out material stock checks and arranging workshop machine maintenance and repair

In addition to your leadership responsibilities, you will be working directly on a variety of projects covering all scales, from large masterplans to full size design mock-ups and exhibition models. You will be required to work independently and as part of a team on a range of high profile projects.


Skills and experience

Sound architectural or model making studio experience

Ability to understand and interpret architectural drawings, hand drawn sketches and written information and to interpret into physical making

Demonstrable aesthetic and design judgement, as well as high levels of accuracy and a continued passion for making models – from prototypes to large urban design models

Comfortable using traditional processes and techniques of model making by hand as well as new technologies with knowledge of current architectural trends and techniques

Knowledge of laser cutting principles, experience on a variety of woodworking machinery, spray painting techniques and 2D and 3D CAD software knowledge

Comfortable managing and working to tight deadlines, running multiple projects independently

A pro-active, problem solving approach

A collaborative working style

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the practice

Interest in developing new techniques and engagement with architectural software, animation and visualisations as more integrated approach
