Allies and Morrison Studios
London
Many of the themes running through the practice's work are embodied in the studio at 85 Southwark Street. The rendered rear elevation steps in response to rights of light constraints, while the fully-glazed front maximises north light and reveals the exposed concrete frame and moveable yellow fins that control glare internally.
A steel spiral stair rises to the triple-height studio atrium and descends to spaces for printing and modelmaking. A rooftop meeting room opens onto a terrace with retractable canopies. Sustainable measures to reduce energy consumption are used throughout.
