New Town
Abu Dhabi
This proposal is for a new satellite town for 50,000 people outside Abu Dhabi. An oasis in the desert, it has a strong centre, a well-defined edge and a distinct civic identity. It is organised as a series of villages, each with its own character.
The town centre, with office district, civic buildings, a mosque and shaded retail streets, is dominated by a large park edged by three green hills. Residential neighbourhoods are encircled by a linear park. The informality of the plan reflects the irregular geometries of traditional Arabic towns.
