THE GUARDIAN NEWSROOM

Islington, London

Housed within the shell of a nineteenth-century warehouse, The Newsroom contains archives of the Guardian and Observer newspapers together with an education and visitor centre.

The new public street entrance is set back to create a colonnade, with a cafe adjacent. The central warehouse courtyard is reclaimed to provide top-lit space for temporary exhibitions, flanked by a lecture space and the archive itself. Bespoke glass cabinets present ancient bound copies of the Guardian and lead to education and administrative areas which are illuminated by an intimate rear garden.
