AL-FALAH NEW TOWN

Abu Dhabi, UAE

This proposal is for a new satellite town for 50,000 people outside Abu Dhabi. An oasis in the desert, it has a strong centre a well defined edge and a district civic identity. It is organised as a series of villages, each with its own character. At the core though is a place with a strong sense of centre, both scared, civic and soft.

The town centre, with office district, civic buildings, a mosque and shaded retail streets, is dominated by a large park edged by green hills. Residential neighbourhoods are encircled by a linear park. The informality of the plan reflects the irregular geometries of traditional Arabic town.
