MOUNT PLEASANT

Islington, London

Mount Pleasant is a large and complex central London site. Straddling two planning authorities, set within a varied urban context, it includes retained Royal Mail operational facilities and lies over a network of culverts and tunnels. Working with three other architectural practices, Allies and Morrison acted as masterplanners on the Islington half of the site and developed detailed proposals for 181 residential units across three of the ten blocks. Each block is particular to its setting – from large scale perimeter block defining the principal street corner to a smaller ‘bridge and gallery’ access block on Phoenix Place and finally a low scale ‘pavilion’ block at the centre of the site.
