MILTON KEYNES COLLEGE

Bletchley

The masterplan and new buildings for Milton Keynes College of Further Education at Bletchley provide new teaching and workshop facilities arranged to form three distinct external spaces. The focus is the central courtyard, with its triple-height cloister acting as the main circulation route within the building.

The wall to the cloister is entirely glazed, with internal timber louvres modulating the light inside. In winter, solar gain contributes to the efficient heating of the space; in summer, vents at the top draw out excessive heat. Facades are clad in European Larch boarding or grey lapped fibre-cement panels to create an economical envelope which has diversity without complexity.
