ENERGY CENTRE

Addenbrooke's, Cambridge

The new Energy Centre, integral to the implementation of the Allies and Morrison designed masterplan for the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, will cut site-wide carbon emissions by almost half and help the Cambridge University Hospitals Trust to surpass its NHS sustainability targets. The building responds to its location both within the masterplan and on the edge of the fields of Southern Cambridge green belt. Its form represents the complex requirements of its internal functions in a barn-like buildings, which brings together a simple orthogonal plan with a north-south roof orientation to optimise the potential for photo-voltaic panels. The corrugated surface of the building is panelised to minimise waste while green walls at low level emphasise its connection with the landscape.
