CLIVEDEN HOUSE HOTEL

Berkshire

Allies and Morrison was invited to complete an estate-wide masterplan for the Grade I listed Cliveden House Hotel, a significant National Trust Property, in order to identify a number of potential interventions that would upgrade the hotel’s offer for guests and allow the hotel business to grow. Although commissioned by the Hotel, the masterplan integrated aspects of the National Trust’s estate development plan both in terms of current and future development proposals, to identify potential uses of all buildings, structures, gardens and spaces in line with their Visitor Management Plan.

Following successful completion of the masterplan, the hotel client and leaseholder invited the practice to refurbish the East Wing interior, which had not been updated since the original conversion of the House in the 1980s into its current use as a luxury country house hotel. The refurbishment work involved overhauling the building services and renewing the bathrooms with modern suites designed by the hotel’s interior designer, while coordinating with and conserving historic fabric and finishes in consultation with the National Trust.

Allies and Morrison has been retained in a Conservation Compliance Monitoring role on site, to stringently protect the building’s heritage whilst meeting the commercial pressures faced by the hotel.
