BURNLEY JOB CENTRE

Lancashire

This new three-storey office building in Burnley town centre provides accommodation for Job Centre Plus as part of the Department for Work and Pensions’ new-build and refurbishment programme. The main entrance defines a new public space which acts as a focus to the approach and provides access to a new pedestrian route along the River Calder.

The local Fletcher Bank sandstone cladding is extended to line one side of the simple regular vertical window openings, giving the facade a different character dependent on the angle from which it is viewed. By orientating these panels towards the entrance, the importance of the building’s accessibility from the centre of town is reinforced.
