South Bank, London
This long, narrow building creates a new frontage of restaurants to the busy route between London’s Royal Festival Hall and the Hungerford Railway Bridge. Offices for the Southbank Centre are located on the upper floors, with support spaces for the concert hall below.
Double-height units and a substantial flight of steps flowing from podium to street level provide a strong frontage to the approach from Waterloo Station. The elevation facing the Festival Hall is animated by alternating light fittings, an echo of the original 1951 Festival of Britain facade.
