RIBA National Award for King’s College School

Allies and Morrison’s work on a new building for a school in Wimbledon, south London has been awarded a coveted RIBA National Award. The project is one of 49 buildings to receive such a distinction in 2017.

The new carefully detailed building at King’s College School provides new classrooms and a dramatic new great hall for the School, as well as new administrative accommodation. It also helps to complete a quad, taking an important place in its late Victorian campus.

Remarking on the quality of the detailing and composition, the award citation says: ‘Thoughtful, composed and formal elevations, decorated in places by applied and delicate steelwork, are clever and highly appropriate to this educational setting’.
