Recently completed: One Friargate, Coventry
The recently completed One Friargate has won the West Midlands Regeneration Project of the Year 2017 at last week’s Insider Property Awards. With a generous double height lobby and 12 storeys of flexible office accommodation, the new building occupies a prominent place within a wider masterplan for the area which has also been drawn up by the practice. Facing Coventry’s recently rehabilitated Station Square, this first building in the Friargate development will be occupied by Coventry City Council and provides an important gateway into the city centre for those arriving by train.
Thoroughly Modern in its design, One Friargate’s elevations are composed of a regular pattern of solid brick piers and horizontal panels which are arranged to allow for a double storey articulation in the building envelope. Solid and composed in form, the new building will help to set the tone for the future Friargate development, which will significantly increase Coventry’s high grade office capacity whilst also healing the division caused from an earlier 60s era ring road.
