New London Awards 2018 shortlist
Four projects by Allies and Morrison have been shortlisted in this year’s New London Awards – each of them very different in scale and scope: One Paved Court, the Barking & Dagenham Character Study, Glasshouse Gardens and Goodluck Hope.
Shortlisted in the Conservation and Retrofit (Built) category, One Paved Court is a new art gallery and studio for three resident artists situated within an old Georgian shop in Richmond.
Shortlisted in the Masterplanning and Area Strategies category, the Barking & Dagenham Character Study is a comprehensive investigation of the east London borough’s social and physical evolution. With extensive and engaging consultation with the local community, the Study highlighted opportunities for future sustainable growth.
Shortlisted in the Housing (Built) category is Glasshouse Gardens. Forming a key component of the new International Quarter London in Stratford, these two residential towers have a streamlined appearance thanks to their repetitive pattern of curved horizontal concrete slabs. There are generous balconies, natural lit accommodation and shared amenity for the mix of 333 studio, one, two and three bed homes.
And Goodluck Hope, a new waterside neighbourhood where the River Thames meets the River Lea, has been shortlisted in the Public Space category. Designed in collaboration with landscape architects Spacehub, the project’s architecture and public realm builds on the area’s distinctive dockland character.
