MAKING DOHA AND THE ARCHITECTURE OF AN URBAN PROJECT

The practice’s work on Msheireb Downtown Doha is featured in the first thematic exhibition at the new National Museum of Qatar in Doha, which opened last week.

The exhibition, entitled ‘Making Doha’, charts the meteoric growth of the Qatari capital since 1950, placing major architectural commissions, masterplans and megaprojects in the historic, cultural and political context of Qatar’s evolution. Msheireb Downtown Doha is one of several major urban developments profiled, as an example of the country’s desire to create a contemporary vernacular. Included are a selection of images, illustrations and models produced by the practice and masterplan collaborators Arup and Aecom. The exhibition also features a recorded interview with Bob Allies and Simon Gathercole.

‘Making Doha’ has been curated by Rem Koolhaas and Samir Bantal of OMA/AMO and Fatma Al Sehlawi of the Atlas Bookstore, and is open to the public from 28 March to 29 September 2019 at the National Museum of Qatar.
