Clandon Park design competition shortlist
We are delighted to announce that a team led by Allies and Morrison has been shortlisted in the National Trust’s Clandon Park International Design Competition, which aims to restore and revitalise an 18th-century Palladian house near Guildford.
Our group, which brings together Feilden+Mawson, Price & Myers, Max Fordham, Nissen Richards Studio, Tom Stuart-Smith, David Bonnett Associates and The Fire Surgery, will now enter the second stage of the competition and develop design concepts.
Designed by the Venetian architect Giacomo Leoni, the Grade I-listed Clandon Park is one of Britain’s finest examples of Palladian architecture. Unfortunately, a fire ravaged the building in 2015, leaving behind significant damage. It has meant that Clandon Park requires significant restoration yet the tragic fire also provides opportunities for fresh thinking. The National Trust’s aim is thus to restore the house – one of only five surviving buildings by Leoni in England – and give it ‘a new life’ through new uses and a transformed visitor experience.
The competition has been organised by Malcolm Reading Consultants.
