Brick Awards 2016: Best Urban Regeneration

Allies and Morrison’s recently completed first block of new homes at West Hendon has won a Brick Award. The project took top honours in the Urban Regeneration category in the Brick Development Association’s annual programme recognising the best use of brick in new architecture. The scheme is comprised of four linked buildings, including a 26-storey tower, providing 287 homes.

Wienberger Cambridge Cream bricks were selected resulting in striking, clean contours. The light brick colour and texture compliments the variations in greens along the neighbouring landscape of the Welsh Harp Reservoir, a Site of Significant Interest. The project sits within a wider masterplan for West Hendon in northwest London, realised by Allies and Morrison. The plan incorporates affordable housing, new public parks, a primary school, community centre and commercial spaces for small cafes and shops within a high-density neighbourhood of 2,000 new homes.
