Advent Window at Allies and Morrison

Allies and Morrison is delighted to unveil our annual Christmas window installation at our Southwark Street studios – Advent Window. Designed by architects Lauren Howard and Paul Motley, in a fruitful collaboration with our modelshop, Advent Window is a contemporary re-interpretation of the traditional advent calendar.

The installation is made up of 25 triangular-shaped oblong pieces along the window of our gallery space, representing the days of the month leading up to Christmas. Each piece turns on a spindle creating an impression that is not dissimilar to a row of Tibetan prayer wheels. Beginning on the first of December and through to Christmas Day (25th), one will be turned every day, gradually revealing a stream of colour onto Southwark Street.

We hope that Advent Window will address the outside by politely introducing a burst of cheer into the hustle and bustle of the city, while also providing a sense of cosiness and warmth for us inside. It’s a metaphor for the ideal Christmas scene.
