Breaking new ground: Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub

Construction is now underway on the Michael Uren Biomedical Engineering Research Hub at Imperial College London’s new White City Campus in west London. Designed by Allies and Morrison, the innovative new facility will bring together researchers, engineers, scientists and clinicians to research and create affordable medical technologies.

RTPI Awards 2017 Shortlist: From Guildford to Muscat

Two projects by Allies and Morrison have been shortlisted in this year’s Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards. The masterplan for Guildford town centre and hinterland has been shortlisted for the Excellence in Plan Making Practice award, and our masterplan for Madinat al Irfan has secured a spot as a finalist for the International Award for Excellence in Planning.

Edinburgh Concert Hall Shortlist

Allies and Morrison has been shortlisted in the open competition to design a new home for the Scottish Chamber Orchestra. The new concert hall is to be located within Edinburgh's Unesco-listed city centre.

Falaj to city: Water Systems of the Gulf’s Oases

Allies and Morrison is hosting an exhibition, Falaj to City: Water Systems of the Gulf’s Oases, from 30 January to 17 February at our Southwark Street studios. The exhibit presents a study of the falaj, a longstanding water irrigation system that has helped to nourish communities across the Arabian Peninsula.

Van Alen Institute International Council

The practice has joined the International Council of the Van Alen Institute, a New York-based organisation that develops cross disciplinary research, public programmes and design competitions in urbanism. For more than a century, the Institute has been an advocate for fresh thinking in the design and planning of its home city – New York – and is now increasingly engaging with dialogues in cities around the world.

In Hounslow, a new neighbourhood now onsite

A new residential development designed by the practice at the former Hounslow Civic Centre is now onsite. The Lampton Road and Civic Centre project will create 919 new homes, of which nearly half will be affordable in the west London borough. Deputy Mayor of Housing James Murray was on hand for the groundbreaking on 25 January 2017.

FutuRIBA at Allies and Morrison

The president-elect of the RIBA, Ben Derbyshire, hosted a conversation on the future of the Institute and the wider profession of architecture at Allies and Morrison on 26 January. RIBA members and architects from our practice, as well as some others in our Bankside neighbourhood, participated in an open and frank discussion about the future of the profession.
